I have been lucky enough to be around for some really positive changes at St Vincent’s. I’ve learnt that no matter what the project, the key is involving the people on the ground through each step of the way.
Sometimes you think you’ve got a really good idea but in reality it’s not going to be practical for the staff that have to do it. These big ideas end up being a lot of work and it’s not until you actually understand the problem that you realise it’s the simple solutions that can really make your job easier. I think it’s important that when something goes well and you can see the results, whether that’s a better patient experience or staff satisfaction, you communicate this with the team. Nothing motivates people more than success. So celebrate the wins!
