Güler Altunbas

I’m a new and emerging visual artist based in Melbourne and facilitate art making for individuals and groups who have a lived experience of mental health concerns.

I work with a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpture.

Some of my artworks can be seen at the entrance of St Vincent’s main hospital building during mental health week.

Recovery to me isn’t about returning to the way one was before a breakdown or what I call a breakthrough.  Recovery is about understanding and embracing the unknown, the different and or diverse in our community and society.

Addressing social justice issues are important to me.  I have collaborated with cohealth and made a bronze sculpture to be launched on ‘white ribbon day’ (to prevent violence against women) on the 25 November 2016.
