I’m a Melbourne based visual artist undertaking an artist in residence with St Vincent’s. Some of the areas I focus on are fine art, graphic design, illustration and street art.
Some of my influences come from the 1960s psychedelic poster art, graffiti-art movement of the 1980s, pop art, typography, modern and contemporary art.
My aim is to challenge conventional ideas surrounding art, and art made by people who have a lived experience of mental health problems.
My passion and drive is to make use of my artworks to educate people by breaking down stereotypes and myths surrounding mental illness.
The themes and subject matter of my artworks in direct and indirect ways explore the mind, medications, psychology and psychiatry.
The process of recovery can be seen as the search for meaning by looking at old things in new ways and doing things differently.
I’m a recipient of numerous awards the details of which you can see on my website www.adamknapper.com
