St Vincent’s Dr Joseph Doyle is one of the recipients of this year’s Gilead Fellowship which supports research projects in relation to HIV and chronic viral hepatitis studies.

Dr Doyle’s project will comprehensively assess the burden of hepatitis C in Victorian prisons, including incidence, prevalence and re-infection.
The study is important in evaluating the impact of hepatitis C treatment on transmission, as well as prevention benefits as a result of expanded treatment access in Victorian prisons.
This follows the Victorian Government’s decision in April last year to choose St Vincent’s to establish a statewide network of hepatitis clinics at Victorian prisons.
